Lawyer says Khan Sir won’t surrender in court, to file anticipatory bail tomorrow
Patna: Tutor Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, will not surrender in Patna civil court, his lawyer Arvind Kumar Mahuar said on Saturday. His legal team will file an anticipatory bail on Monday.
“The time to file an anticipatory bail plea in court ended on Saturday. We will file it on Monday,” the lawyer said.
The case stems from a June 2 attack on Khan Sir’s coaching centre. Videos of the incident that surfaced online showed several people assaulting a security guard, hurling bricks and stones, and tearing down posters outside the institute. Firing was also reported initially, but Patna Police denied it, but later registered a case against Khan Sir at Kadamkuan police station. Two security guards of Khan Sir were arrested and sent to jail. Khan Sir was also questioned earlier.
Mahuar said, “There is no chance of Khan Sir surrendering. The firing did not happen because of my client. Police have mentioned wrongly in the FIR. Khan Sir never said, ‘you fire, I will handle the rest’. We are filing the anticipatory bail petition on June 8 (Monday).”
Both security guards of Khan Sir, Pradeep and Tarkeshwar, have been arrested and sent to jail. A bail plea for the guards has been filed in the court of First Class Judicial Magistrate Anurag Verma. The hearing for the same is on Monday.
Five teams of police visited the coaching centre at different times overnight, but failed to arrest Khan Sir even after 24 hours. Students stayed outside the institute through the night, ignoring repeated police announcements asking them to leave.
A high-level meeting on law and order was held at the Central Range IG office on Friday. Police have appealed to students not to be misled by any coaching centre.
Khan Sir had called the firing ‘self-defence’. “A scuffle was going on. I knew the police would take time to reach as they cannot fly there. So guards fired in self-defence,” he said.
“Why do we keep guards? To protect people when needed. What should a bodyguard do until police arrive?” he asked.
He praised police on the day of the attack, but later said they arrived late. In a new classroom video, he showed the students CCTV footage of the attack and alleged the person seen taking away the guard has not been arrested. “The issue is being diverted,” he said.
