Patna: In a major boost to Patna’s urban transport network, metro train operations up to Malahi Pakri station are set to become a reality shortly. The development follows approval from the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for the stretch on the priority section of the Patna Metro Rail project.
The newly constructed elevated station, which has successfully undergone trial runs, is now ready for passenger movement. According to the Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRC), CM Samrat Choudhary is expected to inaugurate the station, completing the entire stretch of the priority corridor, also known as the Blue Line.
Malahi Pakri station, located in the bustling Kankarbagh area, is a key component of the Blue Line (Corridor II) of the Patna Metro. The north-south corridor is designed to connect Patna Junction in the south with Patliputra Inter-State Bus Terminal (new ISBT) in the north. The station has been equipped with modern facilities, including CCTV surveillance, security personnel, baggage screening systems, ticketing counters, lifts, escalators, stairways and aesthetically designed wall art, ensuring a safe and comfortable travel experience for commuters.
The priority section covers around 6.5km of elevated track between Malahi Pakri and New ISBT. The corridor comprises five important stations — Malahi Pakri, Khemnichak, Bhootnath, Zero Mile and New ISBT. An initial 3.6 km stretch between Bhootnath and New ISBT, featuring three stations, became operational in Oct 2025 after being inaugurated by then chief minister Nitish Kumar, marking the launch of Bihar’s first metro service. The addition of Malahi Pakri and Khemnichak stations will complete the priority corridor and significantly strengthen connectivity across eastern Patna.
Khemnichak, which will serve as the interchange station, is expected to become operational by the end of 2026. It will provide connectivity between Corridor I (Danapur-Khemnichak) and Corridor II (Patna Junction-New ISBT).
The Blue Line is planned to be around 14km long with 12 stations, a substantial portion of which — nearly 7.9 km — will run underground.
A Patna Metro official said, “Trial runs on the Bhootnath-Malahi Pakri stretch (around 2.9km, including Khemnichak) were conducted successfully under the supervision of CMRS and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation experts. All civil, structural, electrical, and safety works at Malahi Pakri have been completed, linking it seamlessly with the existing operational route. The approval to run the metro service up to Malahi Pakri was recently given and it will be launched soon for public.”
