Medical colleges to be developed under PPP model in state: Samrat

Patna: CM Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday said medical colleges in Bihar would be developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model through both greenfield and brownfield projects, while directing officials to reduce unnecessary patient referrals and strengthen treatment facilities at the local level.

Chairing a review meeting of the health department at Sankalp Sabhagar in Lok Sewak Bhavan, the CM said patients should receive quality treatment at hospitals closer to their homes and avoidable referrals must be minimised as far as possible. He asked officials to ensure implementation of this system in all district and sub-divisional hospitals by Aug 15 and assigned district magistrates the responsibility of monitoring compliance.

The directions came during a detailed presentation by health department secretary Kumar Ravi, who briefed the meeting on the department’s organisational structure, service delivery mechanism, the status of medical colleges and hospitals under construction, and future plans for improving healthcare services in the state.

Samrat also asked officials to expedite the construction of medical colleges and hospitals currently under way. He said the govt was committed to expanding medical education and strengthening healthcare infrastructure so that people could access quality treatment within the state itself.

The CM said accessible, transparent and high-quality modern healthcare services were being provided to people and noted that medical facilities in rural areas had improved significantly in recent years. He reiterated the govt’s commitment to ensuring better medical education and treatment facilities across Bihar.

The proposed PPP model for medical colleges is expected to support both the establishment of new institutions under Greenfield projects and the expansion or modernisation of existing facilities under brownfield projects as part of the state’s efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and medical training capacity.
