Patna: Muslims across the city observed the first roza (fast) of Ramzan on Friday with deep devotion and joy, following the sighting of the crescent moon. After fasting from dawn to dusk, they broke their fast in the evening and offered Taraweeh, a special prayer service.
The city's mosques, especially Sher Shah Suri Masjid and Pathar Ki Masjid, were bustling with worshippers engaged in religious rituals. The mosques, decorated and illuminated, saw large gatherings at iftar when devotees came together to break their fast.
Sadia Khan, a resident of Patliputra, said her family had been preparing for Ramzan for a week. "This month is about deep spiritual engagement and generosity. We prepare iftar not only for ourselves but also contribute to mosques, where the needy gather in the evening," she said.
Markets in Sabzibagh, Raja Bazaar, Phulwarisharif and Patna City remained busy throughout the day as people shopped for food and essentials for iftar. Small hostels and eateries in Sabzibagh's narrow lanes were brightly lit, offering special delicacies like imarti, longlata, kalakand, pakodis, ghoghnis, kebabs-parathas and samosas.
Mohd Chand, who runs an eatery in Dariyapur, said they prepared iftar, night meals, and sehri (pre-dawn meal) during Ramzan. "Most eateries remain closed during the day. We start cooking after 4 pm and serve customers until dawn. We also offer faluda in the evening," he said.
