Girls bag 30 gold medals out of 43 at PU convocation

Patna: Girls outnumbered boys by bagging as many as 30 out of the 43 gold medals awarded to the toppers of postgraduate examinations at the annual convocation of Patna University held at the Patna Women's College auditorium on Saturday. Governor-cum-chancellor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar presided over the event. Among the toppersAltogether 1023 scholars, who passed the PU examinations of PU in 2021-23 session, were awarded degrees including 47 PhD degrees at the convocation.Addressing the convocation, Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti chairman Chamu Krishna Shastry called upon the degree recipients to fix their goals in life and always remain prepared to face challenges with determination. He said the youths must develop strong willpower so that they could fulfill all their hopes and aspirations.Citing examples from mythological and historical texts, Shastry pointed out that hard work and sincerity are the basic tools through which the youths can attain much greater heights. He wished the scholars all success in their future endeavours.In his presidential address, the governor said the students and youths must work in the larger interest of the society. He said that instead of becoming job seekers, the educated youths should become job providers. They can easily undertake some start-ups and serve the society in the right earnest.Arlekar said, in order to provide the youths with necessary guidance and financial support, there would be an entrepreneurship development cell in each university soon.PU vice-chancellor Ajay Kumar Singh, in his welcome address, outlined the academic and infrastructural development of the university in recent times. PU registrar Shalini led the academic procession. PU geology department teacher Atul Aditya Pandey conducted the proceedings.The gold medallists in the faculty of humanities included Madhu Kumari (Hindi), Pragya and Ruchika Raj (English), Mayank Kumar (Sanskrit), Bhawesh Mishra (Maithili), Babli Pramanik (Bengali), Shafiqul Alam (Arabic), Shamsher Ansari (Urdu), Jaya Dipti (philosophy), Anchal Singh (music) and Simran Kumari (MJMC).In the faculty of social sciences, the gold medallists were Aditi Kshyap (history), Neha Kumari (political science), Hina Praveen (home science), Shubhm Kumar Upadhyaya (Ancient Indian history), Ishita Arya (sociology), Jahnavi Singh (economics), Prachi Singh (psychology), Soni Kumari (geography), Nisha Pandey (PMIR), Shaswati Vardhan (Rural studies), Divya (social work), Aditi Raj (women's studies), Shweta Raj and Anand Prakash (library and information science).The gold medallists in the faculty of science included Abhay Kumar Singh (physics), Anshu Rani (chemistry), Krishna Kumar and Shagaf Afreen (zoology), Arvind Kumar (botany), Tejaswini (geology), Aashish Raj (mathematics), Shally Makharia (statistics), Sakshi Kumari (biochemistry), Rashika (biotechnology), Sidrah Firdaus and Amrita Singh (environmental science), Sheetal kumara and Anvi Arya ( MCA). Other toppers include Praksh Sharma (commerce), Nidhi Kumari (MBA), Vineet Kumar (law) and Kajol Kumari (education).
