Patna: With an aim to protect environment and conserve biodiversity, little Damians on Saturday tied rakhi around tress and raised slogans, at a programme organized by the Times of India in collaboration with Tarumitra. At least 250 students of Notre Dame Academy (NDA) planted saplings at the Tarumitra Ashram with the help of senior students of Holy Cross School. The event was graced by Padma Shri Salil Bhatt, NDA Montessori section principal Sr Namrata SND, teachers, Tarumitra director Fr Robert Athickal, coordinator Devopriya Dutta and TOI members.

While Margaret Molomoo, an organic farmer from Darjeeling, explained the participants about biodiversity, Holy Cross students performed a tribal dance based on trees. “Lots of trees are being cut down everyday. It is important to raise awareness among children regarding environment conservation,” said Sr Namrata.

According to NDA teacher Pamela Anthony, “Such events should be organized on a regular basis. We must also ensure active participation of children so that they know the importance of trees.”
