The new FIRs were registered on Tuesday. Sources said the central investigating agency had so far detected fraudulent transfer of funds to the tune of over Rs 1,500 crore from bank accounts of state government departments to the accounts of NGO Srijan Mahila Vikas Ewan Sahyog Samiti.

The scam was initially unearthed in Bhagalpur, where the NGO is headquartered, in August last year, but it later turned out similar withdrawals had been made in other districts of Bihar as well.

The NGO was founded by one Manorama Devi in the 1990s. After her death in February last year, her daughter-in-law Priya Kumar helmed the NGO. Priya and her husband were yet to be arrested.

One of the FIRs lodged on Tuesday has named as accused ex-Banka district land acquisition officer Jayshree Thakur and ex-Bank of Baroda (BoB) and Indian Bank (IB) managers.
