Want direct dialogue with students, teachers: Governor to varsities
Patna: Governor-cum-chancellor of universities, Syed Ata Hasnain, on Thursday asked universities to organise separate interactions between him and representatives of students and teachers at regular intervals so that their genuine concerns could be identified and addressed promptly.
Reviewing the academic and administrative functioning of Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, at Lok Bhawan, Hasnain said direct interactions with students and teachers from individual universities would help him better understand academic and campus-related issues. He also advocated regular engagement between current scholars and former students to foster a healthy academic environment.
Governor’s additional chief secretary Dipak Kumar Singh, Bihar Agricultural University (BAU) vice-chancellor D R Singh and other senior university officials attended the meeting.
The chancellor directed universities to ensure proper teaching of English and at least one foreign language to enhance students’ competitiveness at the global level. He said students completing such language courses should be awarded certificates.
Hasnain also asked universities to regularly update their placement cells with details of students placed in various organisations so that future batches could benefit from better employment opportunities. He further urged institutions to promote waste-paper recycling among students and faculty members.
The chancellor suggested that universities and colleges adopt as many leprosy patients as possible to help ensure their medical treatment and healthcare.
He also advised the vice-chancellor to explore innovative initiatives such as developing a ‘Sindoor Park’ at Officers’ Training Academies in Gaya, Danapur Cantonment and other locations.
On the occasion, Hasnain released the logo of the proposed National Mango Festival, which will be organised at Sabour on June 27 and 28.
