Police said Ramesh and R Ajith, 19, also from Barwani, stayed in the parking lot of the resort and offered on Pudukuppam beach rides on two camels owned by a resident of the town. They maintained the camels in the parking lot.

On Aug 15, a fully drunk Ramesh decided to stay back with the camel while Ajith went with the other to the beach. Around 11am, a guard at the resort rushed to the beach and told Ajith that Ramesh was found unconscious with bleeding injuries all over the body. Ajith took Ramesh in an ambulance to Indira Gandhi govt medical college and hospital where a doctor declared him 'brought dead'. Police inquiries showed that a drunk Ramesh was riding the camel in the parking lot when he fell and was trampled upon and bitten by the animal.

Thavalakuppam SI Shanmugam Satya said a case was registered under section 194 of BNSS . Police would follow due procedure and approach the animal husbandry and forest department to examine the camel, she said, adding that Ramesh was trampled to death and not due to animal bites.
