Laptops for differently abled students: Pondy LG Tamilisai Soundararajan

PUDUCHERRY: Lieutenant governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said the Puducherry government will provide laptops to differently-abled college students free of cost. Unfurling the tricolour during the 75th Republic Day celebrations in the presence of chief minister N Rangasamy and other dignitaries on Friday in Puducherry, Tamilisai said the government has passed an order to implement the scheme.

Later, speaking to reporters after the Republic Day recep tion hosted at Raj Nivas, Tamilisai claimed that the permission to hold jallikattu, a traditional Tamil sport, was granted only after the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She went on to claim that the PM had directed three of his cabi net colleagues to sign documents to approve the bull-taming sport.

She declared that DMK’s claims that the BJP has no role in lifting the ban is untrue. She urged the DMK, which is in power in Tamil Nadu in alliance with the Congress, to initiate talks with the Karnataka government, where the Congress is in power, and resolve the Mekedatu dam issue at the earliest. Earlier, she presented police medals to two SPs and a head constable and commendation certificates to an SI, an ASI, two head constables for exemplary service.
