PM Modi wishes success for G20 Library Summit 2024 being held in Pondicherry University

PUDUCHERRY: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wished for the success of the G20 Library Summit 2024 under the theme, ‘Connecting the nations for knowledge and cultural heritage’ hosted by the Ananda Rangapillai Library of Pondicherry University from Wednesday. The summit concludes on Friday.

“The sharing of best practices by various nations at the G20 Library Summit 2024 will be an enriching experience for all. I am sure that students, researchers, academicians, librarians, as well as domain experts, will learn from each other. This will also help form abiding relationships with each other and with the pursuit of knowledge. Best wishes for the success of the G20 Library Summit 2024,” he said in a message, which was read by the vice-chancellor in charge at the inaugural session of the summit on Wednesday.

More than 300 delegates from G20 countries are taking part in the event. More than 1.3 lakh visitors from 85 countries have visited the conference’s online portal, according to a release from the university.

Modi said for centuries, India’s socio-cultural fabric has been woven with an enduring tradition of relentless pursuit of knowledge. “Our scriptures say there are no eyes akin to learning,” he said.

Modi said books have for long been regarded as humanity’s best friends, as they help delve into the depths of a wide range of subjects including philosophy, language, and literature, and build our intellectual prowess. “Our libraries and reading rooms are a vast repository of various subjects to fulfill the requirements of information, knowledge and entertainment. Libraries have traditionally been places where great ideas were absorbed, as well as born,” Modi said.

He said the libraries have reoriented themselves to the needs of readers by adopting the latest technologies and keeping pace with the changing times. “We have been single-minded in our endeavour to significantly boost the habit of reading among young people. The rising popularity of digital books and audiobooks is revolutionizing reading habits in the 21st century. Yet at the same timethere is also an increased interest in traditional books and libraries,” he said.
