Puducherry: Lawyers boycott court proceedings to protest move to rename 3 Acts

PUDUCHERRY: The functioning of all courts in the Puducherry integrated court complex was affected on Thursday as the Federation of bar associations of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry boycotted work and staged a fast to protest the decision of the Union government to rename the Indian penal code, 1860, the Criminal procedure Act, 1898 and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.

The federation perceives these bills as potentially compromising the principles of justice and individual rights inherent in the legal system, said federation’s IT wing president R T Shankar.
