PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry cybercrime police on Thursday arrested YouTuber P K Vijay alias Durgairaj from Virudhunagar district on charges of making derogatory remarks on women and girls from different parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on his YouTube channel.
Police said his modus operandi was to befriend women through social networking sites promising them to help launch their YouTube channels and get thousands of subscribers and followers so that they can earn easy money. He will later start to chat seductively with them and force them to fall into his trap. Many women after learning his ulterior motives stopped communication with him and blocked him.
Vijay, to take revenge on them, started posting videos and audio recorded earlier when they were friends with derogatory comments later questioning their character, on his YouTube channel. A woman from Puducherry, who was one of his victims, lodged a complaint after learning that he had posted audio and videos questioning her modesty and making derogatory remarks about women in general.
Police analysed the videos and audio in his channel and were shocked to find content with derogatory remarks about more than 20 women in Chennai, Madurai, Trichy, Coimbatore and other places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Police managed to trace him to Trichy and arrested him. He was brought to Puducherry and produced before a judicial magistrate, who remanded him in judicial custody.
