PUNE: The Pimpri police on Wednesday registered an offence against four men on the charge of circulating morphed photographs of the president of a political party and posting lewd comments about him on a popoualr social media platform.
The four men have been booked under sections 505 (1) (making and circulating statements conducing to public mischief), 501 (punishment for defamation) and 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) of the Indian Penal Code. A party worker had lodged an FIR with the Pimpri police.
The party president had recently attended a programme organised by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to mark the 100th birth anniversary of Lokshahir Anna Bhau Sathe. Members of an organization condemned his speech and demanded an apology from him, a police officer said.
On Wednesday, the complainant noticed that the morphed images of the party president had gone viral, along with the lewd comments, on various social media sites.
“We have identified the four persons and will arrested them soon,” the police officer said.
