PUNE: A havaldar from Pune police’s special branch was arrested on Friday, and two clerks who were then posted with the offices of

(zone V), and the then day book in-charge at Wanowrie police station, were booked on charge of fudging records to help the havaldar secure the state Director-General of Police’s insignia last year.

, also applied for a President’s medal this year on the basis of the fudged records. “We registered a case on the basis of the recommendation made in an internal inquiry report by an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) that prima facie indicted the havaldar and the three others of the crime,” deputy commissioner of police (zone V) Namrata

told TOI on Friday.

“Earlier, the police commissioner’s office had received information on the havaldar having applied for the President’s medal despite being punished in the past for dereliction of duty. This had led to the internal inquiry by the ACP,” said Patil.
