Pune: Over 100 physicians from private and government set-ups in Pune have unanimously decided to maintain a record of new Covid drug molnupiravir for internal long-term assessment of its efficacy and reported side-effects.
Molnupiravir is currently recommended only among comorbid Covid patients at high risk of progressing to severe illness. “This will also help us find the efficacy of molnupiravir in reducing hospitalisation in a real-world scenario,” said senior physician Dr
Mukund Penurkar
, secretary of the
Association of Physicians of India
(API), Pune branch.
Over 500 physicians are attached with the API, Pune. Of them, 110 physicians have agreed to be part of this joint assessment exercise that kicked off in early January this year and will continue till December.
Dr
Aniket Joshi, member of the API, Pune branch, said, “We have started maintaining the patients’ record (prescribed molnupiravir) from January in the form of
OPD
papers etc. Now, we have printed case report forms in a proper format.”
