PUNE: A motorcyclist was killed and the pillion rider escaped with minor injuries when a speeding dumper hit their bike from the rear on the Mundhwa-Kharadi bypass around 11.40am on Monday.
Police identified the deceased as Nafees Abdul Shaikh (32) and the pillion rider as Sunilkumar Yadav (20). “Shaikh and Yadav were heading toward the

Road via the bypass when the accident occurred,” an officer from the Mundhwa police station said.
Senior inspector Krishna Indalkar of the Mundhwa police said, “As it was raining and Shaikh suddenly applied the brakes, the driver of a dumper, heading in the same direction, lost control of the vehicle and hit the bike from behind. The impact of the accident was such that Yadav and Shaikh fell off the bike. The front wheel of the dumper then ran over Shaikh killing him on the spot.”
Both the victim and the injured are from Rajasthan and were residing in Kharadi. “They were working at a furniture shop,” the police said, adding that Yadav has lodged a complaint against the dumper driver.
“We have arrested the dumper driver, Jogesh Karmali (32), from Kharadi under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act. The dumper has been seized,” Indalkar said.
