Empower Indian youth for future challenges, says Lok Sabha speaker Birla
Pics mailed to all — Caption: A student receives gold medal from LS speaker Om Birla — Credit: Bharati VidyapeethPune: Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla on Thursday emphasised the importance of empowering India's youth to tackle future challenges and said Indian youngsters possessed the intellectual and spiritual capabilities to make a significant impact."India's strength is based on the philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (the world is one family). This has empowered the Indian youth. They will face challenges and opportunities in the future," Birla said during the 26th convocation ceremony of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University).More than 6,800 graduates were awarded degrees, and 71 students were awarded doctorates at the ceremony. Birla said the youth would strengthen the power of democracy by finding solutions to any crisis with self-confidence and inspiration. "Education awakens a sense of equality and brotherhood. By achieving success in your favourite field of education, you will face new challenges in your life. It is necessary to constantly strive to fulfil the dreams. Bharati Vidyapeeth has done great work in the field of education with the aim of educating disadvantaged tribal students from remote villages, contributing to the development of the state and the country. It is expected that the youth will strengthen the power of democracy by finding solutions to any crisis with self-confidence and inspiration," Birla said.Birla presented gold medals to 42 students who secured highest marks in postgraduate and undergraduate courses in each faculty.The ceremony was presided over by chancellor Shivajirao Kadam and attended by vice-chancellor Vivek Saoji, pro-VC Vishwajeet Kadam, registrar G Jayakumar, among others. Saoji said, "The university has received grants of more than Rs 15 crore from various institutions for research work. Over Rs 2.5 crore were spent on research work through the university in the last year. Eighteen startups have been operational in the last five years and three startups were launched this year."
