NEW DELHI: NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday said that the results of the recent Haryana elections, where BJP maintained its hold, will not impact the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections in November.

Speaking to reporters in Karad, Satara district, Pawar highlighted the significance of the Jammu and Kashmir elections from a national perspective, noting the global attention the region receives. He emphasised that the results in Jammu and Kashmir are more crucial than those in Haryana.

In the October 5 Haryana polls, the BJP won 48 seats in the 90-member assembly, securing a third term. The Congress secured 37 seats, with Nayab Singh Saini set to be the chief minister. In Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the chief minister, leading the first elected government in the union territory since 2019.

'CJI DY Chandrachud has shown new path'

Pawar praised the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud for unveiling a new statue of the Lady of Justice at the Supreme Court, featuring open eyes and the Constitution in hand, instead of a sword. He remarked, "A new direction has been shown by the CJI as this thought never occurred in this country."

Regarding the Chief Election Commissioner's (CEC) decision not to freeze the trumpet symbol, which the NCP (SP) claimed resembled their symbol, Pawar indicated that the party had clarified the symbol's design. "So we can expect that it (the symbol) will not affect us," he said.

Pawar also mentioned that the decision on seat-sharing within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in Satara district would be made by the party's state unit chief Jayant Patil. He added that issues regarding the MVA's chief ministerial candidate have been resolved among the alliance partners, Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and NCP (SP).
