PUNE: NCP chief and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar's mother, Ashatai, on Wednesday said that her brother-in-law and veteran politician Sharad Pawar and her son should reunite.
She was in Pandharpur to offer prayers at the Vitthal-Rukmini temple after which she interacted with the media. She said, "While offering prayers, I wished that differences within the Pawar family end at the earliest."
Responding to a question on the possibility of the uncle and nephew coming together again, she said, "I hope Pandurang answers my prayers."
MLA Rohit Pawar's mother Sunanda had, on Dec 13, said both Pawars should reunite. Speculations about the possibility started on Dec 12 when Ajit Pawar, along with wife Sunetra, elder son Jay, and senior NCP members, visited Pawar's residence in Delhi to wish him on his birthday. It was Ajit Pawar's first personal meeting with uncle Sharad Pawar after the split in the family and the party in 2023.
In Pandharpur, Ajit Pawar's mom prays for family unity Reacting to Ajit Pawar's mother's statement, NCP national working president Praful Patel said, "Sharad Pawar is like a father figure for us, and we always respect him. We went to wish him on his birthday, and we would like to maintain a good relationship with him. Nobody knows what will happen tomorrow, but if at all they come together again, we will be very happy."
Union minister of state for social justice and RPI's president Ramdas Athawale too appealed to Pawar to reunite with Ajit Pawar and join NDA.
Athawale, who was in Pune, said, "Ajit Pawar's mother has offered prayers in Pandharpur for the reunion, and I too personally feel that both Pawars should come together. The experience of a senior politician like Pawar will be valuable for the NDA govt. He should leave the Congress which did not make him Prime Minister and instead join NDA."
