PUNE: The confusion over admission to various under graduate law courses prevails as the students are still in the dark about the schedule.
With no rank list announced, candidates are in a fix as they do not know which college should they name in their preference form. Moreover, there is no fixed schedule yet for the students to follow though the tentative time-table says the aspirants should start applying online from August 2.
"There is utter confusion about the entire procedure. The tentative schedule says that online form filling starts from August 2 and will continue till August 6. But the notice also says that the schedule is tentative and subject to change by the competent authority. The notification further says that an updated time-table will be put up on the website but no new notification will be given for it. If they are not giving us a fixed time-table even on the eve of the form-filling date, then when will they?" asked Jitendra Nene, an aspirant from Pune.
The aspirants have also highlighted the government's failure in issuing a rank list along with the score card. "This is the first time the CET is being held, so we don't expect the authorities to declare last year's cut off list. But at least they should have given us our rankings. This would help us understand where we stand with respect to other students and would have applied in colleges accordingly. A student from Pune may know which college is good in the city, but a student from other city or village may not know. It is all a mess now," said Nene.
While candidates from cities are confused, those from rural areas are at a bigger disadvantage. They keep calling up their friends and relatives in the city to know if there has been any announcement about the law admissions fearing they may miss out on the admission date.
Vaibhav Kulkarni, another law aspirant from Yesgaon near Kopargaon town of Ahmednagar district, makes a trip to Kopargaon almost every day. "The authorities have told us to keep checking out the website to see if a new notification has come out. So a lot of us, who stay in villages have to come to the town to see if the new schedule is out. First they said the admissions start on July 2, then it got postponed to July 15, July 25, July 28 and now August 2. It would have been easier for us had they linked the notification process with an SMS service," said Vaibhav.
Vaibhav further rues the lack of transparency in betterment rules. "They have not mentioned how to apply for betterment option in the tentative schedule. Then there are rumours that the mimimum score required is 40 or 35 among other numbers. If only they could clarify, candidates who have got less could have applied somewhere else," added Vaibhav.
V R More, joint director of higher education, said, "The form filling process for all students will start on Tuesday. The students will have to fill up only information about themselves in this form. A link for students to fill the basic information will be put up on the official website of the directorate of higher education today."
The director further said that there will not be any rank list given to students. "Any student with a non-zero positive score can apply. The students have to keep in mind that on Tuesday they be able to fill the form which has details about their personal data. Later on they will be asked to fill up a preference form online where they will have to fill in their choice of colleges. The schedule for all this will be given later," added More.
