An hour of dhol tasha equals to 1000 cal loss
The next time you beat dhols, sway while playing the tasha and move to the tunes of lejhims, keep this in mind – an hour of performing in
Strengthens the core
Actor Saurabh Gokhale, a part of Kalavant Vandan, a dhol pathak from the city, prefers sweating it out at the practise sessions of dhol tasha, to hitting the gyms, during Ganpati. “The weight of the dhol is such, that you require a lot of stamina to carry it. During our practise sessions, we have to carry it for a few hours at a stretch. While on the day of visarjan, we have to carry the dhol for at least three to four hours. Carrying the dhol requires not only core strength but also strong arms and shoulders, which are trained to carry the instrument, during the practise,” said Saurabh. Hence he suggests a proper practise session before the miravnuks happen in the city. “You cannot join a dhol tasha group one fine day and perform. Like any other musical instrument, you need a lot of dedication and strength above all,” Saurabh added. Apart from keeping one strong, an hour of dhol practise, can let you skip your cardio session! Actor and fitness enthusiast Akshay Waghmare, who prefers skipping cardio in the gym to play his tasha at the pathaks, said, “Playing the tasha has
become a part of my life now. There are times when I skip the gym and yet I complete my daily levels of cardio at the tasha practice. It also improves your concentration and makes you more focussed for the next day’s workout.”
Improves overall fitness
At a time when functional training is more revered than sweating it out in the regular gym, fitness experts welcome the idea of training the dhol tasha way. Shyan, a fitness trainer, at one of a fitness training centre that specialises in functional training, shared, “Though I wouldn’t recommend skipping your regular training, but playing in a pathak can surely increase your fitness levels doublefold. It improves your posture, strengthen your arms, shoulders and forearms and also improves your overall fitness levels.”
Festivities and fitness go hand-in-hand
While the ten days of Ganesh festival ensures that you do not keep a check on your calorie intake, a session at the miravnuk might beat your weight blues away. Danseuse Nupur Daithankar, who is a part of a dhol tasha pathak in the city, said, “The Ganesh festival is all about celebrations. And the dhol tasha performances just add to the festivities. In all this, if you tend to burn some fat and stay fitter, why not indulge?”
