Pune: Maharashtra defeated Delhi 3-0 and joined defending champions Madhya Pradesh in the quarterfinals of the Women’s national championship at Major Dhyan Chand stadium, Nehrunagar, Pimpri, on Thursday.
Kajal Atpadkar (11th minute), Rutuja Pisal (21’) and Priyanka Wankhede (57’) were the goal-scorers.
This was the second win by the hosts in a three-team pool with the group topper assured of a knockout berth.
Maharashtra had earlier hammered Kerala 10-0 with Pisal scoring four goals. One of those four goals came via a penalty corner. Priyanka Wankhede, Akshata Dhekale (pc), Durga Shinde, Bhavana Khade (pc), Vaishnavi Phalke and Yogita Bora were the other goal scorers. Madhya Pradesh progressed with a 7-1 win over Bihar. Gugale-Mhatre-Jadhav show flattens Nanded
Swapnil Gugale (68, 36b), Digjvijay Jadhav (40, 24b) and Siddharth Mhatre (63, 39b) combined for a perfect top-order batting performance that set up PBKJCA’s 89-run win over Nanded in the MCA T20 Invitation cricket league on Thursday.
In reply to PBKJCA’s 216/7, Nanded could muster 127/8 with Shamshuzama Kazi’s 72 the lone bright spot in an other forgettable outing for the latter at Deccan Gymkhana. Left-arm spinner Rudraj Ghosale’s 4-17 proved to be a rare match-winning bowling performance in the shortest format as Recreation thrashed YMCA by nine wickets at Poona Club.
After restricting YMCA for 98/9, Recreation rode on openers Saurabh Sanklecha (43, 35b) and Shreyas Jivane’s (46*, 42b) clinical start to coast home in 14.3 overs.
Shashi Gawande (3-32) and Atish Kumbhar (2-26) helped Judicial CA defend a competitive total of 164/8 for a two-run win over DVCA at Gahunje.
Digvijay Patil’s 52-ball 91 set up Cadence’s 46-run win over Kings at Veerangan.
Captain Saurabh Shevalkar’s unbeaten 105 (51b) went in vain as PYC comfortably overhauled Maharashtra Cricket Vikas Sanstha’s total of 176/7 with seven wickets in hand and almost four overs to spare at the MCA stadium.
Openers Shreyash Walekar (34, 19b) and Siddhesh Veer (55, 23b) followed by Rahul Desai (33 no, 21b) and Aditya Londhe (43, 27b) ensured sum was more than the parts for PYC while MCVS - which had three ducks - paid the price for one-man show. tnn
