Pimpri resident duped of Rs15L in cyber share-trading con

Pune: Cybercrooks duped a Pimpri resident of Rs15.35 lakh in an online share trading fraud between Dec last year and Jan this year. The victim, an employee of a private company, on Monday lodged a complaint with the Pimpri police. An officer from the Pimpri police said the crooks contacted the victim through a mobile messaging app. They assured him of good profit on investment in shares through their company. The crooks also made the victim download their firm's app to monitor his profit.
"The private firm employee transferred Rs8.75 lakh between December last year and January this year to different bank account numbers provided to him to purchase shares and IPOs. When the victim found that he had earned a profit of Rs55 lakh on his investments, he tried to withdraw his money. The crooks then told the victim to pay Rs6.62 lakh under the pretext of short-term gains tax. The private firm employee transferred the money to a bank account number provided to him," the officer said. "The victim realised that he was being duped when the crooks stopped responding to his calls. He initially filed a complaint application with the cyber police.
