PUNE: The Faraskhana police on Thursday arrested a 32-year-old woman from Vashi in Navi Mumbai on the charge of duping a jeweller from Raviwar Peth of Rs2.6 crore on the pretext of purchasing 5kg gold biscuits between 3pm and 4.30pm on July 20.
Assistant inspector Santosh Shinde on Friday said, "The 46-year-old jeweller, Rakesh Solanki, got friendly with Madhavi Chavan alias Dembe after she won his confidence by visiting his Popatlal Gold store to buy gold biscuits over the last four-five years."
Shinde said, "On the day of the incident, Madhavi purchased 5kg gold biscuits from Solanki and told him that some cash was lying in her car and the rest she will pay online."
"Solanki sent his employee with Madhavi but she diverted his attention and fled on the pretext of getting money from her vehicle. The jeweller realised he was tricked after she did not return the money and switched off her cellphone as well," he said.
