Senior author Veena Deo passes away

Pune: Senior author and renowned teacher of Marathi literature Veena Deo (75) passed away on Tuesday after a brief illness.Deo was the daughter of well-known author Gopal Nilkanth Dandekar and mother of popular actress Mrunal Kulkarni. Deo was known for her compering skills in cultural events, concerts, TV programmes and for All India Radio. She received many awards and recognitions for her work in the field of literature and culture, on which she gave lectures across the state. Her book reading programmes and sessions were well accepted by literature lovers. Deo also authored and edited several books.She was president of the rural literature meets held in Thane and Vita. Deo was a Marathi teacher in a college in Pune for three decades. She spent her childhood in Chiplun and later moved to Talegaon. She came to Pune for higher studies.
