Truck kills man watering plants on h’way

Pune: A 22-year-old worker died after being hit by a truck while watering plants in the median of the Pune-Mumbai highway. The accident happened near the HA (Hindustan Antibiotics) Colony in Pimpri on Thursday morning.

An officer from the Pimpri police said that around 7.30am, the victim, Shyam Sundar of Dapodi, was watering the plants in the median of the Pune-Mumbai highway from a water tanker.

“The tanker was halted along the road. A truck heading towards Pimpri hit Sundar, killing him on the spot,” the officer said.

He said that after hitting the victim, the truck crashed into the median and came to a halt. The accident caused traffic congestion on the highway.

“We shifted the truck off the highway and restored traffic movement. A case of causing death by negligence has been registered against the truck driver,” he said.
