RAIPUR: A 20-year-old youth, identified as Manjit Yadav, was arrested in Raipur district for allegedly stabbing a labourer after the victim refused to give him money for alcohol. Police have also recovered the knife used in the crime.
According to officials, the victim, Bablu Bhuiya, a labourer at Devi Iron Company, was walking with his friends, Narendra Kumar Singh and Satish Chandravanshi, on the Raipur–Bilaspur road near Siltara village when the accused, riding a two-wheeler, stopped them and demanded money for alcohol.
When Bhuiya and his friends refused, the accused allegedly abused and assaulted them. As Bhuiya protested, he was attacked with a knife before the assailant fled the spot.
A case was registered at Dharsiwa police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.
Led by Siltara outpost in-charge Rajendra Kanwar, the police team questioned the victim and his friends, and examined CCTV footage from the area to trace the accused. Following a tip-off, Manjit, a resident of Saddu, was arrested from his home in the Vidhan Sabha police station area of Raipur. He later confessed to the crime.
