Chhattisgarh youth beaten to death in ‘love triangle’ case

RAIPUR: Durg police took into custody five youths for allegedly beating another youth to death over a love-triangle issue. The victim was reportedly chasing the girl to talk to her, and the girl complained about this to her male friend, who, along with his other friends, thrashed the youth to death.

Durg Additional SP Abhishek Jha stated that the incident took place in Padmanabhpur in Durg district, where a teenage girl and a 21-year-old boy, Chetan, were friends, and the boy reportedly developed feelings for her. Soon, the girl and her mother moved to Surguja district four months ago, and the boy wanted to continue talking to the girl.

While the girl made new friends in another town and was moving on with life and studies, Chetan started chasing her with calls, which disturbed her, police said based on the initial investigation.

When the girl and her mother visited Durg on December 24, Chetan forced her to meet and talk, despite her denials.

Police said that the girl had a close male friend, Lukesh Sahu, 22, and she informed him about Chetan harassing her. Lukesh then suggested she call Chetan for a meeting at Civil Lines late on Sunday.

When Chetan arrived at the location, Lukesh was waiting with his friends, who were armed with rods and sticks. A confrontation took place between Chetan and Lukesh, following which the other youths attacked Chetan repeatedly until he fell to the ground unconscious and died within minutes.

The youths fled the spot. Based on CCTV footage, police took into custody five youths, while Lukesh is at large. Police have summoned the girl as well to record her statement, and the involvement of other youths in the crime is being verified.

Calling it a case of a ‘love triangle,’ police said that a case has been lodged at Civil Lines police station.
