Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel inaugurates Chhattisgarhia Olympics
RAIPUR: Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel on Monday inaugurated the second season of Chhattisgarhia Olympics at Nawagaon gram panchayat in Raipur on the auspicious occasion of the Hareli Tihar. The mega sports event will continue for three months and the winners of 16 traditional sports competitions will be awarded.
The chief minister marked the beginning of the event by waving the green flag, symbolizing the start of the 'Gedi' race. Additionally, he personally distributed sports equipment to the participating players.
Chhattisgarhia Olympics, date of which has been advanced by three months keeping in mind the assembly elections in the state, has gained immense popularity after overwhelming success of the first season held from October 6, 2022 to January 10, 2023.
To cater to the growing interest in traditional sports, jumping and wrestling has been included for the first time in the event. The event will feature competitions of 16 traditional sports in six phases, providing a platform for athletes to showcase their skills and compete at various levels.
Over 30 lakh female and male participants will take part in the Chhattisgarhia Olympics in three different age groups. The chief minister also launched the mascot of the Chhattisgarhia Olympics on the occasion.
