NEW DELHI: A man allegedly bludgeoned his 70-year-old mother to death after she refused to give him Rs 200 to purchase a dog in Chhattisgarh's Raipur on Friday, police said
The 45-year-old e-rickshaw driver, Pradeep Dewangan, allegedly killed his mother and wounded his wife in an incident that took place near Urla police station in Nageshwar Nagar around 8 am, according to station house officer B L Chandrakar.
Chandrakar explained that Dewangan, who wanted to buy a puppy for Rs 800, asked his mother, Ganeshi, for Rs 200 to make up the shortfall.
The father of three children - two sons and a daughter - became violent when his mother refused to provide the money.
According to the official, Dewangan attacked his mother with a hammer, causing fatal injuries, and also assaulted his wife, Rameshwari.
The situation was interrupted when his 15-year-old son stepped in and called for help from neighbours, allowing the assailant to flee the scene.
Upon arrival, police transported both women to hospital, where Ganeshi later died during treatment.
The authorities have registered a murder case and are actively searching for Dewangan, who remains at large.
