MP's 'killer doctor' N John Camm linked to Chhattisgarh ex-assembly speaker's death post surgery; hospital gets notice
RAIPUR: The Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) of Bilaspur district has issued a notice to Apollo Hospital, Bilaspur, regarding a case involving a quack doctor who allegedly treated several heart patients at the hospital. Among the patients was former Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Rajendra Prasad Shukla, who died shortly after undergoing surgery in 2006.
The notice seeks detailed information about Dr Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, who also went by the name Prof N John Camm. The CMHO has asked the hospital to clarify the duration of Dr Yadav’s employment, his role and position, and whether he was registered with the Chhattisgarh Medical Council.
The hospital has also been directed to provide details of Dr Yadav’s educational qualifications and expertise, whether he worked as a cardiologist, the number of cardiology operations he performed, and statistics on successful and unsuccessful procedures, including post-operative deaths.
Apollo Hospital must also submit a photocopy of Dr Yadav’s appointment letter and report whether there were any prior complaints about his qualifications or medical skills. If complaints were received, the hospital is required to explain what action was taken. The CMHO has given the hospital three days to submit the report.
This notice follows a First Information Report (FIR) lodged in Damoh district, Madhya Pradesh, on 5 April. The FIR, filed by the local Chief Health Medical Officer Dr M K Jain, alleges that Yadav conducted angiography and angioplasty procedures without proper registration. Yadav was arrested in Prayagraj on Monday night and produced before a local court.
In 2006, Rajendra Prasad Shukla was a serving Congress MLA from the Kota Assembly constituency. He was also the first Speaker of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly from 2000 to 2003.
