Newborn who landed in dustbin after birth died due to infection
RAIPUR: The baby girl who landed in Jagdalpur government hospital's dustbin soon after her birth died due to severe infection on Thursday. Parents demanded FIR against hospital authorities.
Soni Baghel, the mother who lost her 10 days old baby could’t resists her tears while sharing her ordeal. The woman alleged that her baby died due to severe infection. Both parents staged demonstration at the government hospital in Jagdalpur after the death of the baby who took her last breath around 6 am on Thursday.
Victim’s kin demanded FIR to be lodged against the accused nurses and doctors. Post-mortem of the baby was conducted after the demand of the family. No one from the hospital staff responded to calls when contacted.
After a newborn fell into a dustbin at the government hospital in Jagdalpur-headquarters of Bastar district - on March 20, a probe has found the hospital administration and nurses guilty of lapses.
The issue also echoed in the assembly with Congress legislators raising it during zero hour. The Bastar collector, who probed the case, confirmed laxity of hospital administration and ordered action against nursing staff.
"Tribal woman, Soni Baghel from Bilori village was admitted in Jagdalpur Medical College by me on March 20th. While Soni lay screaming in labour pain, nurses and doctors went out of the room. Within minutes, Soni gave birth to a baby girl who fell into a bin near the bed stuffed with medical waste. Doctors, who entered the labour room after hearing her cries, asked her to clear blood stains on the floor even as the baby lay in the bin," said Champa, the health worker who has taken Soni to hospital for delivery..
The administration tried hard to hush up the matter but failed as the health worker revealed the ordeal to local Congress netas. Hospital staff admitted the baby in the ICU after she became infected from contact with waste.
