Patan Assembly Elections Results 2023 Live: Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel is leading over his nearest rival Vijay Baghel (BJP) by a margin of over 5,500 votes in the ninth round of counting.

Till 10am, Vijay Baghel was leading in the early trends. The contest in this constituency has been intense, featuring a closely watched battle between the incumbent chief minister, Bhupesh Baghel of the Congress, and his relative, Lok Sabha MP Vijay Baghel.

This election holds significant importance for both the Congress and the BJP. The Congress, led by Bhupesh Baghel, seeks to maintain its dominance in the state, while the BJP aims to stage a comeback after ruling the state for 15 years until 2018.

Patan is considered a Congress stronghold, with Bhupesh Baghel emerging victorious in both the 2013 and 2018 Assembly elections. In 2013, Baghel secured 68,185 votes, garnering a 47.5% vote share. His support increased in 2018, winning with 84,352 votes and a higher vote percentage of 51.9%.

Notably, Vijay Baghel had previously won in the 2008 election, securing 59,000 votes with a 48% vote share. Bhupesh Baghel faced defeat against his relative in that election, trailing by around 8,000 votes.

The Patan constituency, situated in the Durg district of Chhattisgarh, is characterized by a majority of the Sahu community, followed by the Kurmi and Satnami societies.

In 2018, Bhupesh Baghel secured a resounding victory with 84,352 votes. His BJP opponent, Motilal Sahu, garnered 56,875 votes, losing by a margin of 27,477 votes.
