Koriya police said that the 25-year-old woman from Baiga tribe is a mother of three children and is a resident of Podi region in Manendragarh in Koriya district. On the night of April 8, the woman left home after serving food to her husband, excusing herself for going out to answer nature's call.

The accused Sukhlal Baiga, 40, who lives hardly 200 metres from her house was looking for an opportunity and pounced on her in dark. According to the woman's complaint, he dragged her inside his house and raped her throughout the night.

The woman's husband lodged a missing complaint at Podi police station next day morning following which the police launched a manhunt.

The woman in her complaint told the police that the accused man would take her to forest before dawn, rape her and bring her back to his house late night. He had threatened her of dire consequences if she didn't co-operate with him.

Police said that woman however, was released on April 11 morning and informed her husband about the incident following which, an FIR was lodged. Accused Sukhlal was arrested under Sections of 376, 506 and 343 of the IPC and sent to jail.
