Man booked for hurling dog from building’s 2nd floor
Rajkot: A shocking case of animal cruelty has come to light in Jamnagar, where police have registered an FIR against a man accused of throwing a dog from the second floor of an apartment building, leaving the animal seriously injured.
According to police, the incident occurred on the afternoon of June 8 at the Kukda Kendra Aavas housing complex. The accused, identified as Papubhai, allegedly grabbed a dog by its legs and hurled it from the second floor. The fall caused severe injuries to the animal’s legs and other parts of its body. The complaint further alleges that the accused had previously assaulted the dog’s puppies.
The incident was captured on video, which later circulated on a WhatsApp group. Rajnikanth Chauhan, whose wife runs an animal care centre in Jamnagar, came across the video around 3.30pm and immediately began efforts to trace the location of the incident.
With the assistance of his wife and a local resident, Chauhan identified the location as Block No. 6 of the Kukda Kendra Aavas complex. Upon reaching the spot, he learned that local residents had already contacted the Safe Animal Helpline.
The injured dog was first taken to a veterinary hospital for emergency treatment and was later shifted to the Safe Animal Welfare Centre, where it is currently undergoing medical care.
Chauhan subsequently lodged a formal complaint with the police. Based on the complaint and preliminary investigation, the Jamnagar City B-Division Police registered a case against Papubhai under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11(1)(L) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Several animal welfare activists and local residents have been cited as witnesses in the case. Animal rights advocates have demanded strict action against the accused, calling the incident a disturbing example of cruelty towards animals.
