Ranchi: Two members of the banned extremist organisation People Liberation Front of India (PLFI) from the Tupudana area of the city on Thursday, police said.
The accused were identified as Arun Lohra and Suraj Lohra. Officials said the duo arrived at Barahmile chowk on a bike to collect Rs 50 lakh as extortion money when the police apprehended them and recovered PLFI pamphlets.
Police said the case began after Bajrang Mahto, a resident of the Nagri police station area, lodged a complaint stating that PLFI demanded Rs 50 lakh from him. A team was formed to investigate, and technical inputs indicated the extremists would come to Barahmile to collect the levy.
Based on the information, police laid an ambush and arrested them upon arrival. Police said further investigation was on and raids were being conducted to arrest remaining gang members.
