Dumka: The Sahibganj district police on Wednesday arrested a woman along with her boyfriend-cum-nephew on charges of murdering her 14-year-old son, identified as Ayush Kumar, police said on Thursday. The body was recovered from near a pond in Ratanpur village under Barharwa police station on February 7.
Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Nitin Khandelwal revealed that the illicit relationship, coupled with family disputes, was the main motive behind the crime. Khandelwal also said Ayush’s father lodged a formal case with the Barharwa police station on February 9, two days after the recovery of the body.
Based on technical evidence and intensive interrogation, police arrested the victim’s mother, Meera Devi (33) and his maternal cousin, Rohit Saha (30).
“Meena and Rohit were in an illicit relationship for the past two years. On the day of the incident, Ayush caught them in a compromising position, and the victim’s father was away from home,” the SDPO said, adding, “Fearing that their relationship would be exposed, the duo strangled him to death and attempted to hide the body.”
