Gurwa reunited with family after four years; mother’s prayers and relentless efforts bring son home at last
Bokaro: Hope nearly faded, but a mother’s quiet prayers and years of relentless effort ended in a reunion that turned hopelessness into celebration in town on Thursday.
Gurwa, now around 20, returned home after being separated from his family for nearly four years.
The journey back was anything but simple. Gurwa was living at a child care home in Sahyog village, Chas, after being found wandering in the Pindrajora area in 2022. Villagers handed him over to the police, following which he was produced before the Child Welfare Committee and given shelter.
With limited memory and mental health challenges, Gurwa could offer no clear details about his identity or family, making the task of tracing his roots a prolonged struggle. Officials ensured continuous medical care, leading to gradual improvement in his condition over time.
“Efforts to establish his identity through Aadhaar hit repeated roadblocks. It was later discovered that his Aadhaar had already been created, though the details were not readily accessible. With support from UNICEF and the Centre for Child Rights at NUSRL, authorities finally retrieved information that helped locate his home,” said chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, Leelavati Devi. “He went to attend a wedding and never returned. “Seeing him again is beyond words,” the mother said.
