Jamshedpur: Five persons died in three road accidents in East Singhbhum district in the past 24 hours, police said.
Officer in-charge of the Musaboni police station, Anuj Kumar, said, “Three members of a family died while one person sustained serious injuries when the scooter they were riding on collided with a dumper parked on the roadside near Bank of India branch at Surda late Friday.”
The deceased were identified as Rohit Karmakar (21), Samir Karmakar (19), and Raj Gope (16). Rahul Karmakar, also in his 20s, was admitted to the Ghatsila sadar hospital with multiple fractures. He was shifted to the MGMMCH. All four hailed from Jagannathpur village under Ghatsila police station, police said.
Quoting Rahul, OC Kumar added, “They were returning home from Rohit’s in-laws house in Surda. They failed to see the parked vehicle in darkness. Further investigation into the matter is under way.”
In another incident, a person died while his wife sustained multiple injuries when a truck hit their motorcycle from the rear and dragged it for about 100mt at Mango bridge roundabout on Saturday evening.
The deceased was identified as Lal Kumar (36) while his wife is Nilam Sharma (32) .
Officer in-charge of the Sitramdera police station, Niranjan Kumar, said, “The body of deceased Lal Kumar (36), a resident of Vishwakarma Colony at Dimna in Mango, has been sent to the MGMMCH for post-mortem examination. The injured, Nilam Sharma (32), was admitted to the hospital. The accused driver has been arrested and the vehicle seized. Necessary legal action is under way.”
In another incident, one motorcycle-borne Sanjay Mahato (32) of Baliguma under MGM police station limits was mowed down by an unidentified vehicle at Pagda football ground under Patamda police station limits on Friday.
Brother of the deceased, Yudhister Mahato, said, “The accident occurred when Sanjay was returning home after dropping me last night. His body was recovered from a ditch early on Saturday after locals alerted the police.”
