Jharkhand Govt Urges Corporates to Boost Local CSR Investment for Community Development
Ranchi: The govt appealed to corporates operating in Jharkhand to implement their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in the state.
Addressing the CSR Conclave-2026, industries minister Sanjay Prasad Yadav on Wednesday emphasised the ethical obligation of businesses to support their host communities by investing their CSR funds within the state's active operational zones rather than diverting capital to other states.
“Companies should consider that if they are profiting from a state, they spend their CSR funds to benefit the people of that state. If public see themselves and their younger generations being benefitted, they would trust and support companies,” he said.
Speaking on lack of transparency regarding corporate profits and subsequent CSR allocations within the state, the minister claimed, “At present, there is no monitoring of profit and expenditure of companies operational in Jharkhand. We will set up a monitoring cell so that this information is available easily for the public.”
Department secretary Arava Rajkamal said, “While the companies have various initiatives under their CSR work, there is still a disconnect between their work and the need of the local people. There is a need to bridge the gap between the companies and the local needs to ensure proper utilisation and large-scale impact of CSR works.”
Friction regarding land possession, encroachment, and community protests often stems from a lack of clarity on corporate community investments, he added.
In response to complaints regarding bureaucratic delays in securing clearances for implementation of CSR projects, Rajkamal assured delegates that a directive would be sent to all deputy commissioners to hold regular meetings with corporate CSR teams, ensuring streamlined clearances.
