Ranchi: The Jharkhand Agency for Promotion of Information Technology (JAP-IT) has initiated the process of setting up closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras across all 606 police stations (PS) of the state.
Source said that the time frame for completing the installation work, which would cost Rs 134 crore, is four months.
The JAP-IT had in the recent past floated the tender for the work. On Tuesday, the organisation held a pre-bid meeting to ascertain bidders’ point of view on terms and regulations of the tender.
According to the scheme, the cameras are to be set up in the rooms, custody rooms, officer-in-charge’s rooms and outside and at the backside of every PS.
Source added that three types of cameras — bullet, dome and rotating — would be installed. The bullet camera is for a larger view, dome for panoramic view while rotating would cover the entire campus.
The home department has submitted the list regarding number of CCTV cameras for each PS after a survey.
It may be stated here that the step has been taken following the Jharkhand high court order in Nov, 2025 to install the CCTV cameras. The order was passed by the then Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and justice Rajesh Shankar while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL).
