Koderma: A lower court here sentenced a 26-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for repeated rape and intimidation of a minor. The man, a resident of Chandwara police station, had committed the crime in 2024.

Ghulam Haider also imposed a cumulative fine of Rs 38,000 on the man, stipulating that failure to pay would result in an additional 1 year of incarceration. The court further directed that the fine collected be handed over to the victim and ordered additional support through the victim compensation Scheme.
The incident occurred in 2024, and a complaint was filed by the survivor’s father at the local police station. The prosecution stated that the convict, a relative of the survivor, raped her. The survivor revealed that the convict filmed the act and used the footage to blackmail and silence her for over one year. The matter eventually came to light after the accused carried out his threat to circulate the video, prompting the family to seek legal recourse.
The man was convicted under Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act and Sections 354, 354(A)(1), and 354(B) of the IPC.
