Maoist Offensive Intensifies: Security Forces Plan New Assault After Megaburu Success, India's March 31st Deadline Looms
Jamshedpur: Coming close on the heels of the successful Megaburu operation in which 17 Maoists were killed in the Saranda forest in West Singhbhum in January, the security forces are now aiming to launch a fresh onslaught on the unlawful outfit to destroy it completely. Notably, the Govt of India has set March 31 deadline to free country from Maoists.
In line with the proposed plan, the CRPF IG Saket Kumar and Special Task Force (STF) IG Anup Birthare visited Chaibasa (West Singhbhum) on Tuesday to chalk out modalities for the same.
The duo chaired a meeting with the police and CRPF officials who are leading the operation against the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) on the ground and reviewed the current status of the operation. “The point of discussion was related to the ongoing Naxal operation,” said SP Amit Renu. He refrained from divulging the details of the meeting.
Sources said that the strategy to launch another attack like Operation Megaburu was discussed in detail, wherein force strength, reinforcement, logistics, medical emergency, seamless coordination of the agencies, etc, were deliberated upon.
“With the March 2026 deadline set by the Union home minister, Amit Shah, to eliminate LWE from the country, there is a need to re-strategise our plan and speed up the attack to weed out extremists from the Saranda forest within a given time frame, and the meeting was in tune with that,” said an official privy to the discussions. The security forces have intelligence about the Misir Besra squad being active in Saranda to revive the armed rebels’ foothold. Notably, Misir, a Politburo member of the CPI (Maoist) and Eastern Regional Bureau secretary, was on the radar of the security agencies for a long time.
