Maoists’ attempt to attack construction site in Chatra foiled

Chatra: A team of Chatra police on Friday foiled an attack bid by Maoists at a construction site. The Maoists were trying to mount pressure on the construction firm over their extortion demands. However, a police team rushed to the spot on time, making the Maoists flee. Before escaping, the ultras deflated the tyre of a construction machine by firing a bullet. DIG (Hazaribag range) Sunil Bhaskar confirmed the incident and said prompt action by police averted any untoward incident at the site. The incident took place in the Karilgadwa area of Kunda police station area in the afternoon.Eyewitnesses said around 10 armed extremists reached the road construction site but a police team led by Simaria SDPO Ashok Priyadarshi and Kunda police station officer-in-charge Kaushal Kumar Singh came there within no time and took positions. With the police team nearby, the Maoists fired at a tractor, a mixer machine and an earthmover engaged in the construction work of the Karilgadwa-Kunda road. In the firing, a tyre of the earthmover got deflated. The Maoists then escaped taking advantage of the harsh terrain. The police also did not retaliate.The road construction work was taken up by the Jai Ma Ambe Construction Company at a cost of about Rs 4 crore. The DIG told TOI that the Maoists attacked the site at 3 in the afternoon.
