Minor girl dies after sexual assault, uncle held

Dhanbad: A five-year-old girl died of her injuries after allegedly by sexually assaulted by her uncle. The accused was arrested by a special police team on Thursday.

The girl, who hailed from a tribal community, was reportedly alone at her house when her uncle allegedly assaulted her on Wednesday. Family members, who learnt about the incident, admitted her to a hospital in a critical and unconscious state where she died during treatment. The death of the minor girl sent shockwaves across her locality, and locals demanded punishment for the accused.

Raids were carried to arrest the accused, who had gone into hiding after the incident. On Thursday, postmortem examination of the deceased was carried out. “The accused has been arrested and that police are conducting a detailed investigation based on available evidence,” Dhanbad SSP Prabhat Kumar said.
