Jharkhand: Scribe nabbed from Ramgarh in Maoist-linked case

JAMSHEDPUR: The Seraikela-Kharsawan police arrested Rupesh Kumar Singh, an independent journalist, from Ramgarh, on Sunday. Confirming the arrest, SP Anand Prakash, said the Seraikela district court had issued an arrest warrant against him. “A police team from Seraikela went to Ramgarh and arrested him from his house,” Prakash said.

In a guarded response to a query, Prakash said Rupesh has been arrested in a Maoist-linked case. “The arrest warrant issued in the case was pending against him,” he said, adding, “Rupesh would be questioned in some extremist cases before forwarding him to jail.

Notably, Rupesh, who pens stories on tribal issues, was on the swooping list of the NSO group’s Pegasus spyware. He is also a petitioner in the Supreme Court challenging the use of the spyware.
