Sikh community takes out Prabhat Pheri in run up to Guru Nanak Jayanti
The Sikh community in Ranchi celebrated the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji with grand morning processions called Prabhat Pheri. Thousands of devotees from across the city joined the celebrations, which included multiple processions starting from different gurdwaras, singing of hymns, and a massive community feast.
The main morning procession began at 5:30 am from Gurudwara Sri Guru Nanak Satsang Sabha in Krishna Nagar Colony. It merged with other processions from various gurdwaras as it moved through the city streets. The combined procession passed through major landmarks like Metro Gali, Ratu Road, and Naga Baba Khatal Chowk.
Devotees filled the air with chants of Wahe Guru and Shabad Kirtan. They sang special hymns like "Satguru Nanak Pargatya Mitti Dhund Jag Chanan Hoa" and "Kal Taran Guru Nanak Aaya." The participants, dressed in colorful Punjabi outfits, danced and celebrated along the way.
A special Nagar Kirtan was also organized. It started from the Gurudwara Ground and ended at the Guru Nanak School campus in PP Compound. During this procession, the holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib was carried on a decorated chariot.
The celebrations ended with a massive community feast (langar) organized by the Guru Nanak Satsang Sabha. They set up a huge 29,000-square-foot dining area with separate sections for men and women. The kitchen prepared food for over 15,000 people using massive quantities of ingredients including 700 kg of flour and 10 quintals of rice.
"The celebration of Prakash Parv observed each year on the full moon day of Kartik symbolizes not only devotion but also the reaffirmation of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's timeless message of equality, service, humility, and universal brotherhood," said devotee Gurdeep Singh.
