Daltonganj: A unit of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in
Bihar in collaboration with the
Palamu
police in
Jharkhand
caught six rebels of the
JJMP
, a breakaway faction of CPI (Maoist), at Poldeeh under Hussainabad police station in Palamu on Friday. The rebels were remanded in judicial custody on Saturday, Palamu SP Chandan Kumar Sinha said. Police also recovered a country-made rifle, a country made katta, 10 rounds of ammunition and seven cell phones from those arrested.
Of the six nabbed, one is an area commander of JJMP and identified as Arvind Ram. He belongs to Aurangabad of Bihar.
“Ram used to unleash a reign of terror in Bihar. He extorted money from farmers and brick kiln owners. The majority of his victims are farmers who grow grains on the dry patch of the Sone river in Bihar who were asked to cough up huge amounts of money,” the SP said.
Ram has 15 cases filed against him in different police stations of Bihar and Jharkhand. Among the other rebels arrested is
Sanjay Ram
, also from Aurangabad in Bihar. He has one case against him in Jharkhand.
“Police are verifying the case history of the remaining four,” Sinha said, adding that the six rebels had come to Palamu’s Hussainabad from Bihar to extort money from a brick kiln owner.
