NAMAKKAL: Members of Congress and Kongu organisations here on Saturday observed the 105th birth anniversary of T M Kaliyannan, who had served as a member of the Provisional Parliament of India, the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly and the legislative council. They demanded that the Salem Railway Junction or the Salem airport be renamed after Kaliannan.
Namakkal MP VS Matheswaran, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee spokesman Dr PV Senthil and others paid floral tributes to Kaliyannan’s portrait.
Matheswaran said Kaliyannan, who held many positions at the national and state levels in politics, had untainted hands. “If all politicians follow Ayya's style, they will be able to follow clean politics and serve the people,” he said.
Matheswaran said he would raise in parliament the demand for renaming Salem Railway Junction or the Salem airport after Kaliannan.
